Damn you Nintendo! While we were desperately trying to get all the DS launch info from a darkened auditorium in Paris to our office in London, on to the stage troops eight lucky punters - including Iwata himself - to play Mario Kart DS. It's always a dilemma: do job, or watch brilliant footage of the DS game we've always dreamed about. Tough choice.[br]So thanks to Nintendo, we got into trouble. Truth be told, getting a look at Mario Kart DS wasn't the earth-shattering event we hoped Nintendo would serve as a tasty side order to the main course of the European DS launch details. But it was such a pleasure to see everyone's favourite Nintendo racer looking so good, and actually being played, that we gobbled it up anyway.[br][br]The initial thing that struck us was how much like the original SNES Mario Kart the DS version looked - and we mean that in a good way. Sure, the visuals have been tarted up and each character has his/her own signature kart, but in terms of the aesthetics, the track design and the handling, it looks like the controversial departures of Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash!! have been ignored for a purer Mario Kart experience.[br]And since you'll be able to hook up eight-player races over wireless LAN, complications to the formula aren't necessary. Watching the eight blokes participating in the demo chuck shells at each other (with little green monsters going mental in our eyeballs, we should add), it was pretty clear that the old magic of the Mario Kart multiplayer madness is back. Plus, it looks like you'll be able to Game Share with seven other people, which would be awesome. Make it happen, Nintendo.[br][br]It also looks like the touchscreen will be used primarily for maps and status displays, which we reckon is a far more sensible way to use the space. Touchscreen controls are a nice idea as a bonus, but we'd prefer it if the touchscreen wasn't dominated by them like in Ridge Racers.[br][br]We'll be getting hands-on with Mario Kart DS real soon and we'll bring you our full impressions when we do.

The man who brought the glorious universe of Final Fantasy to adventure fans across the world is working on a new RPG for the Nintendo DS.[br]Japanese mag Famitsu, the holy grail of eastern videogame news, is reporting that Hironobu Sakaguchi has begun work on the project at his new Mistwalker studio.[br][br]Details are scarce on the game itself - not least the title - but Sakaguchi-san promised that the touchscreen would be used heavily and suggested that wireless multiplay would also be an important part of the experience.[br][br]The Final Fantasy pedigree on the project is impressive. Sakaguchi-san himself will act as producer, while Hideo Minaba, who has worked on numerous FF titles including Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, assumes the role of art director.[br][br]Storyline is clearly an important aspect of the project too, since Sakaguchi-san has split development between two teams: one to concentrate on the gameplay, and another to work exclusively on design and plot.[br]We'd love to have more details, but the prospect of such hallowed FF veterans working on a DS RPG already has us more than excited. It's about time somebody exploited the capabilities of the DS touchscreen for RPG combat and inventory management, and used wireless networking for some multiplayer adventuring. Hopefully Sakaguchi-san's project will be one of many.[br][br]More info as soon as we get it.

Just how revolutionary is Nintendo's Revolution going to be? Already we've heard whispers of tilt-sensitive controllers, wireless connectivity with GBA 2, and a whole new way of playing games that relies on feel.[br]We're so eager to speculate because Nintendo has been keen to point out that it's working on something totally different to what we expect from a games console. Now recent comments by the Japanese giant's head of PR have put the rumour cat in amongst the speculative pigeons once again.[br][br]Speaking to Japanese website ITmedia, Nintendo's chief of public relations Ken Toyota revealed a few snippets of info about how he was planning to promote the enigmatic new console to the public. "We don't have the slightest intention of making a machine that follows the same path as conventional game hardware," said Toyota-san, whirring our speculation gears into action.[br][br]Luckily, we won't have to wait to long for the truth. "E3 will be the starting point for the Revolution," Toyota-san said, echoing earlier reports that the next-gen machine would turn up in LA in May. "It remains undecided whether we will show the real machine, videos, or unveil the concept. Right now, we are thinking of how we can accurately convey to people at E3 the different path that the Revolution will take and how it will change the way that games will be enjoyed." [br]Toyota-san also spoke of his worry that showing too much of the Revolution's new features could cause Sony or Microsoft to snatch ideas. "We want to receive some level of feedback from consumers," he said, "but releasing too much information is also another issue."[br][br]Nintendo seems determined to turn the way we play games upside down. It's widely expected that the Revolution will include innovative gameplay features similar to the DS's touchscreen and microphone, and a recent tip-off we received gave the following clue about the next-gen console's revolutionary feature: "Touching is good but feeling is better."[br][br]What remains to be seen is whether Nintendo's unique approach to gaming will win them mass-market support in the upcoming battle with Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 2. All three consoles are expected to debut at E3, so we'll bring you all the statistics and impressions from there.[br][br]More Revolution news as it spins onto our desks.

Nintendo has confirmed that it plans to unveil its next-generation console, codenamed Revolution, at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in May, but the company is still considering how best to announce it without giving too much away.[br][br]Speaking in a recent interview with Japanese magazine ITmedia Games, Nintendo of Japan PR Office Manager Toyoda Ken said, "we are still looking at E3 as a launching pad for the 'Revolution' platform, and are deliberating if we should feature the actual console, visuals, or simply illustrate the concept behind it".[br][br]However the Nintendo man said the company was cautious about saying too much. "While we are aiming to make some form of positive impression, we also want to avoid giving away too much, and are therefore currently in a dilemma about the situation," he added.[br][br]Still on Revolution, he said Nintendo had "absolutely no intention of approaching our new hardware with the intent of making it an extension of the line of hardware we've released up to this point," which almost certainly rules out "GameCube 2" as the official moniker-to-be.[br][br]"The fundamental approach to making things at Nintendo will not change," he said when asked about external pressures, before adding it was safe to say Nintendo was "embarking on a different direction than our competitors."[br][br]E3 is definitely the target though, as Nintendo is not considering any Nintendo-only events "at this stage".[br][br]As a final word on Revolution, Ken took a minor swipe at competitors Sony and Microsoft, both of whom have made stat or tech-heavy announcements in the past, by saying, "fun isn't something that can be expressed in figures, and we are ever mindful of how we can illustrate the difference offered by our particular brand of fun".[br][br]Toyoda Ken also said that the DS would feature prominently at E3 - particularly on account of the show's proximity to its 11th March European launch date. "Following the upcoming release of the DS in Europe, we are looking to use E3 as a means of generating additional momentum for the platform," he said.

Soul Calibur, the finest hack n' slasher to ever grace a Dreamcast and a pretty successful venture onto the current generation of consoles when it finally erupted across all formats the year before last.[br]Well, rumours have gathered apace that Namco's big swords battler may be about to debut on the DS and confirmation apparently comes today courtesy of the Official Latin American Nintendo magazine.[br][br]We first reported on this last September, but no further details have emerged other than Soul Calibur DS is an imminent arrival. Yet Namco would be fools to ignore the DS's touchscreen controls, wi-fi multiplayer and DS download play. Wouldn't they? Well wouldn't they?[br][br]We contacted Namco reps, who were unavailable for comment and "in a meeting" - either that or the sneaky beggars were engrossed in a touch of Soul Calibur DS themselves. No word from Nintendo on this one either yet, but we'll keep harassing them.

The Nintendo DS is taking to the road from 04 February in a massive consumer and trade sampling campaign. It will give everyone across the UK the chance to discover what nearly three million gamers in the US and Japan have already discovered – the Nintendo DS is a great new way to play video games.[br][br]Kicking off with a national shopping mall tour throughout February, March and into April and taking in amongst the 40 day tour; Bluewater, Brent Cross, The Mall (Cribs Causeway) in the South and The Bullring, Trafford Centre and Meadow Hall in the North. Sampling will also take place at 24 'Lock In' invite only nights at Topman stores nationwide including London, Manchester and Birmingham flagship stores.[br][br]Gamers across the country will also be able to get their hands on the Nintendo DS at all 42 of the UK's VUE cinemas between 11 and 12 March, 19 and 20 March and 26 and 27 March in addition to further nationwide sampling activity at Mega Bowl Bowling Alleys, Laser Quest Arenas and All Sports retail stores up to and beyond the launch period. Gamers can find out where and when the tour will arrive at a location near them by logging onto www.touchmehere.co.uk [br][br]Games on show will include Nintendo first party titles 'Super Mario 64 DS', 'Wario Ware: Touched!' puzzle game 'Polarium' and 'Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt'. Third party titles include 'Project Rub' from Sega, 'Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 2005' from EA, 'Asphalt Urban GT' from Ubisoft and 'Spiderman 2' from Activision.[br][br]Dawn Paine, Head of Marketing, Nintendo UK, said: "All our research has shown that sampling will be key in getting people to understand and really enjoy Nintendo DS – once people get their hands on it they can't put it down." [br][br]In addition to this fully comprehensive consumer sampling campaign, Nintendo will also ensure trade and retail get their DS fix courtesy of the 'DS – Dual Squads' with over 25,000 in-store sampling hits between now and the launch for store staff. Retailer GAME will be hosting 15 regional superstore evenings where top loyalty card holders will be invited in-store to try out the DS and its great games.[br][br]Andy Yates, Head of Retail Development, Nintendo UK, said: "Whenever you make a quantum leap in technology like Nintendo have done with the DS, people inevitably ask lots of questions, however, getting the console into people's hands immediately changes their perception and opens up their minds to a new way of playing games through touch. For this reason sampling will be pivotal to the success of our trade strategy." [br][br]Nintendo is also placing a record number of free standing interactive Nintendo DS pods into trade from 01 February. The new striking and eye-catching design will ensure good in-store standout. Nintendo estimate that over 500,000 people will have played the Nintendo DS by the time of launch.[br][br]The Nintendo DS will launch in the UK on 11 March 2005 at the estimated retail price of around £99. Nintendo DS software will launch in the UK on 11 March 2005 at the estimated retail price of around £29 and £19 depending on the title.[br][br]The Nintendo DS is the new touch screen, dual-screened handheld video game system that redefines how people play videogames. In addition to the touch screen, the system includes both voice input and multiplayer wireless communication. The sleek silver and black system will be a welcome addition to any game collection.[br][br]Click onto www.touchmehere.co.uk for all of the most up to date official information on Nintendo DS sampling.

I got this flash card but I can't make it save two games at the same time. I always play Castlevania titles, and I'd like to have the 3 of them at the same time in my card. The only problem is that when I save one of them, it overwrites the others' saves.
Can anybody help me? Does anybody have any ideas???

Out of the minefield of reports and rumours threatening to destroy the unwary on the Internet - be careful where you tread - we rather like the recent wild and wonderful suggestion that EA is planning to develop a Nintendo DS version of its next Command & Conquer: Red Alert game.[br]News of the existence of a new Red Alert game smacked us between the eyes last December, when EA vice president and executive producer Mark Skaggs revealed that the project was already underway.[br][br]At the time Skaggs said that the team behind the new Red Alert title will "leverage and continue to evolve this powerful engine [the Sage graphics engine originally developed for Generals and an enhanced version of which is powering Battle for Middle-earth] as we start work on our new Command & Conquer game."[br][br]Hardly a statement that causes Nintendo DS to immediately spring to mind, is it?[br]Still, the rumours would have us believe that EA Pacific is watching over development of the DS version of the title and that naturally the handheld's stylus and touchscreen are being put to good use.[br][br]And what, pray, does EA UK have to say about all this? When we confronted a spokesperson with the rumour earlier, we were told: "EA have not made any announcement or confirmation on this title."

Ubisoft has announced that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Peter Jackson's King Kong and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory will all be making an appearance on the Nintendo DS.[br]Gameplay details are scarce on all three titles. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is the officially licensed game of some film that's coming out this summer. Apparently it's the story of some bloke called Anakin Skywalker who gets some lassie up the duff, goes all moody, falls in some lava and buys a black helmet. Thus, we expect a platform game. [br][br]Seriously though, the DS version will more than likely transpose the scenes of the film into clever touchscreen-fuelled gaming experiences. It'll be ready when the movie hits cinemas - May 19 in the States and shortly afterwards in Europe.[br][br]Even less info is available for the DS version of Splinter Cell, but it's due "later this year". Hopefully we can expect some nifty touchscreen stealth, and possibly the mic being used for distracting guards and the like.[br]Last up is Peter Jackson's King Kong. It's another flick license, this time based on the Lord of the Rings' director's remake of the monkey monster-mash movie. More touchscreen madness should be expected, hopefully including a 'Spank the Massive Monkey' minigame. The film's due out on December 14, 2005 in the States so the game should be arrive around the same time.[br][br]These titles join Ubisoft's three DS launch titles: Rayman DS, Sprung and Asphalt: Urban GT.[br][br]The DS launches across Europe on March 11. More info and some screens for these new Ubisoft titles soon.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is set to take the floor at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month, with a Thursday morning keynote presentation titled "Heart of a Gamer".[br][br]Iwata is the second key speaker from a major platform holder to be announced at the show, with Microsoft's J Allard already due to deliver an address on Wednesday morning - although neither speaker is expected to reveal much about their respective companies' next-generation plans.[br][br]The Nintendo boss' presentation promises to cover his perspective on the current state of the games industry and the changes set to take place within interactive entertainment, with a specific focus on how these things have driven the company's thinking on both the DS and Revolution consoles.[br][br]Almost uniquely for someone so highly placed within the industry, Iwata's background is actually in game design - having played a key role in the creation of the Kirby character, the Super Smash Bros series and the Earthbound RPG series before moving into his role at the top of the firm.[br][br]"Satoru Iwata is a global icon in the game industry and we are honoured to have him share his knowledge and experience with the entire game community," commented GDC director Jamil Moledina. "The GDC strives to deliver the best the industry has to offer and Mr. Iwata certainly brings us to that level."

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting that Viper chip, and I was wondering if anyone has a reliable site to get it from.
I see this page Here is linked from http://gcemu.dcemu.co.uk/. Has anyone made any purchases from there and how was the service?

Ubisoft has revealed that it plans to release Nintendo DS versions of its forthcoming King Kong and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory titles this year - in addition to previously announced DS titles Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Bomberman DS, Rayman DS, Sprung and Asphalt Urban GT.[br][br]The French publisher, which has been one of the most avid supporters of the new Nintendo system, also revealed that other DS games based on existing internal franchises are set to follow.[br][br]The DS version of King Kong will be released this Christmas to coincide with the cinematic release of Peter Jackson's film project of the same name on 14th December. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory will also appear later this year.[br][br]Fans won't have to wait that long for its DS take on Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, however, which is due this spring. Bomberman DS, recently signed from Japanese developer Hudson Soft in a deal that also included PS2 title Bomberman Hardball, will appear this summer.[br][br]Although Ubisoft's early DS titles Sprung and Asphalt Urban GT have met with poor reviews in the USA, Ubi's interest in the DS is sure to have been buoyed by more than 180,000 sales of the latter, and it has already announced plans to release Sprung, Asphalt and Rayman DS alongside the Nintendo hardware on 11th March.

The GBA and future Nintendo DS emulator for windows has been updated with a new version and also this news.[br][br]"The ARM instruction validator that mic's working on grows all the time. It has 4 screens now! And after a bit of hacking (most notably, fixing rotated-operand LDR to actually rotate the carry in for RRX), I get green lights across the board. I've been assured that Gebea and sGBA do just as well, though, so I still have better competition.[br][br]I've packaged the all new ARM-wrestler ROM into the download Zip, so head over to Downloads and try it out."[br][br]Download from Here

We hesitate to read too much into this, but there’s a rumor going round that Nintendo is going to license the Palm operating system for use in some sort of add-on for the Nintendo DS. The gist of it is that Nintendo filed a trademark in Japan for something called V-Pocket which may or may not be the name for a new package of productivity and organizer applications for the DS that would presumably take full advantage of the portable console’s touch screen. Not entirely unplausible, but it’s hard to imagine there being a massively large number of people who’d want to use the DS as an organizer.[br][br]

Nintendo's recent registering of trademark 'Nintendo V-Pocket' has sent internet speculation, um, ape-shit.[br]As you'll recall, we reported on the trademark last week when it was unveiled by the Japanese Patent Office and at the time entered into the spirit of things by making wild suggestions about the product 'Nintendo V-Pocket' could refer to.[br][br]Of course, unlike a sleeping dog, the 'Nintendo V-Pocket' trademark isn't something that the internet can let lie, and the most recent rumour dropping on the 'net's collective head from a great height is linking 'Nintendo V-Pocket' with Palm Pilot functionality for DS.[br][br]You see, according to reports, Nintendo has licensed Palm OS from PalmSource. This could turn DS into a PDA as well as a games machine and obviously the handheld's touchscreen would be well-suited to such PDA-style action.[br]Although certain quarters have questioned the appeal of - potential - PDA functionality on DS, all we can say is: if you could have access to the entire Batgadget belt, why just opt to plump solely for the Batarang? [br][br]A Nintendo UK rep said that "Nintendo does not comment on internet speculation" when queried earlier about the Palm OS reports, but obviously we'll let you know should we get anything concrete on Nintendo V-Pocket from the horse's mouth.

A company named Turboxs has created an interface for the Gameboy Advance that plugs into your car. It appears to allow for tuning as well as data logging. The Turboxs Dtec lets you use your Gameboy as a Boost Gauge, Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge, Air Temperature Gauge and Tachometer. Future plug-n-play sensors will allow everything from Knock Indication to Vehicle Acceleration. Previously this was only available via a laptop or pda, but bringing this to the gameboy may open up performance tuning to the masses without the expensive peripheral hardware[br][br]http://www.turboxs.com/Dtec/dtec.shtml

DWEdit has released v7 of his PocketNes for the GBA Movie Player, heres whats in this release:[br][br] Fixed 256k PRG games. [br]Stupid bug caused by word alignment issues. Stupid Pocketnes menu maker padded the roms to make them word aligned, so I never noticed the bug during testing. The movie player doesn't pad them. Previously, the only 256k prg games that worked were games whose compressed size was a multiple of 4. (Micro machines, ultimate stuntman..) [br][br]256k Rare Games (mapper 7) don't work. Those games use 32k bankswitching, and I doubt there's a way to get those games to work at a decent speed. Need at least 64k of free ram, since those games constantly switch to page 0 to play music. So no battletoads or ironsword for now. [br][br]I tried to increase the number of free swap pages available (by deleting the last page after decompressing it, since the last page is always there), so Treasure Island Dizzy is now playable, while Linus Spacehead isn't. The bigger the game when compressed, the less free swap pages available. Maniac mansion thrashes like a win98 machine. [br][br]You probably have no idea how much speedup Megaman 2 has gotten since the first release... (mainly because it didn't load ^_^) [br][br]Download Here

2 big Nintendo DS News items from Joat [br][br] ndslib is now up on SourceForge. It is only available as a CVS repository for the time being, a zip will be provided after the library stabilizes somewhat. To install, check out the project, make in the main directory, and follow the README in the startup directory. You'll need a recent version of DevkitARM and MSys (or any other packages that provides an arm-elf targetted GCC and common unix tools such as sh, gnu make, etc...) to build it. [br]Note: ndslib is very much in flux, use it at your own risk. Register names and general layout can and will change! [br][br]and this[br][br] Here is a DS project template. It demonstrates how to set up the ARM7 as a relay of information to the ARM9, and sets the background colors of the screens based on touch screen presses. DSEmu is now the first albeit very very early Nintendo DS emulator to be released, heres the news from the author:[br][br] I now have seperate DS mmu and gpu source files. The DS mmu copies the ROM over to 02004000 as the hardware seems to, and the gpu does nothing different (not even the resolutions) yet. Even so, I now have gba.dll AND ds.dll, and that is good news.[br][br]Good enough to warrant a versioning up, I think. I've hit beta E, so y'all can celebrate this fact by downloading it and trying it out. If you want to load a DS rom, the only way to change DLLs right now is to modify LoadDS in the INI file. You can probably work out what values the variable can take.[br][br]And before I get all sorts of complaints, I know it'll crash. I've just put the compilation framework down, that's all. [br][br]Download it from Here

News From Lik Sang [br][br] If you've been browsing our extensive catalog of games humming "Ain't no mountain high enough...", looking for a fun and far-out challenge that works perfectly on the go, your search ends here: bursting with more than 180 all-new, factory-fresh microgames is NDS WarioWare: Touched, which we received today. All preorders are getting shipped and new orders are of course welcome for only US$ 49.90, this title being eligible for our Free Shipping Worldwide promotion.[br][br]Wario and his outlandish mini-game frenzy appeared on other platforms before, but the Nintendo DS version of the series proves that there's indeed something unique and innovative to touch and dual-screen gaming. A truly evolved GameBoy device, the NDS lets you experience the craziness of WarioWare with a twist, using the touch screen brilliantly and even utilises the system's built-in microphone! Wield the stylus with skill to slice fruit as they fly across the screen, trap a duck as it walks under a cage, pluck a large facial hair by its root, spin a toilet paper roll until there's no more, hit one in a row of cats as it leaps out, and much more. [br][br]It's as bizarre as it gets: complete hilarious tasks that take no more than five seconds to accomplish and the more you master successfully, the faster the game gets. Players are required to draw, tap, drag and spin on the touch screen or blow the micro to score as high a number of challenges as possible, before losing all their four "lives". Just imagine the joy of maneuvering a peeing statue to extinguish fire (beware, it even gets weirder as you progress)! [br][br]While the US version is essentially the same as the Japanese copy and most its games still remain in the North American release, one level in Japanese WarioWare throws a task based on the classic Famicom Detective series at players while Nintendo of America replaced that stage with one about Metroid. Not to mention the relief of full English text this time. [br][br]Graphically you are in for as much sprite-madness as one can handle, plus lots of 3D-effects for good measure. Given the myriad of unlockables, the "just-one-more-go" addictive appeal of the fast-paced, outrageously weird action and the well executed gameplay across two screens adding stylus/microphone joy, this is definitely one of the top titles in the Nintendo DS library. We'd go as far as saying that it's one must-have game if you own Ninty's latest mobile gadget. Now go ahead, touch it already![br]

Great news for Gamecube owners from Lik Sang [br][br] Since Team Star Fox first followed the beckoning stars into space opera action on the SNES in the nineties (with the FX chip built-in the cart!), the series has seen many a console's incarnation. For fans, it took perhaps too long after the latest installment, Star Fox Adventures from Rare (now a Microsoft subsidiary), until Namco finally let their take on the popular Nintendo franchise loose. Our stock of Star Fox Assault has been received in Hong Kong from the USA a couple of days ago and preorders have been all cleared by now. We tested this US version for Freeloader compatibility and you'll be happy to hear that it works fine on both Japanese and PAL consoles as well. Preordering folk, rejoice - your copy of Star Fox Assault is on its way to you already. New orders are welcome for only US$ 59.90, all Free Shipping Worldwide of course! The US version is definitely the game of choice right now, since the Japanese one is still some way off release-wise and (for those language conscious ones) perhaps won't prove that import friendly after all.[br][br]Movies etc [br][br]Who has time to enjoy the views when engaged in fierce space combat? Believe us, if you find a moment to take your breath, you'll gape in astonishment at the visuals, before the driving orchestral soundtrack worthy of a sci-fi stint like this will push you further. Ready to open fire yet? Since moving pictures tell more than a nuked blackhole chock-full with screenshots, we serve you eight cool movies and TVCMs below, that let you worship the superb glory of Star Fox Assault in action, before your copy will arrive at your door:[br][br]• Star Fox Assault Intro 1[br]• Star Fox Assault Intro 2[br]• Star Fox Assault Air Footage[br]• Star Fox Assault Ground Footage[br]• Star Fox Assault US TVCM[br]• Star Fox Assault JAP TVCM[br]• Star Fox Assault E3 2004 Trailer[br]• Star Fox Assault E3 2003 Trailer[br][br]Storyline and features[br][br]Fox McCloud, along with his loyal sidekicks, defends the Cornerian fleet once more against the evil Andross' forces, now led by his nephew Oikonny. Read on to find out what's great about this highly anticipated Action-Adventure, plus view a myriad of movies to get a glimpse of an universe struggling with combat, crying out to be saved by a hero like you.[br][br]The near-disaster episode on Dinosaur Planet behind them, classic Star Fox team members Fox McCloud, Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, Falco Lombardi and General Pepper join forces with some fresh faces to fight a newly emerged threat to the solar system. Lylat Central Command sents the just formed Star Fox Armada in to deal with this enemy, which turns out to be almost more of a menace than they are able to handle.[br][br]New character Rob, an analysis droid, updates you on your mission status during the game, while we see a return of Krystal (from Star Fox Adventures) who takes Peppy's place in the cockpit, the fighter pilot bunny himself acting as an advisor this time around. The game in essence blends traditional on-rail aerial shooter design with third-person perspective, on-foot missions. As expected, players will rely heavily on the trusty Arwing Strikefighter. Planetside though, you will thank the scorched earth for the existence of the Landmaster Tank, as well as a weapon arsenal that delivers good old-fashioned, relentless "if-it-moves-hit-the-trigger" gameplay.[br][br]Available modes include Mission, Survival and Versus. Mission mode will find you entering a story-based experience, where throwing laser and missile salves at targets is on top of your intergalactic To-Do list. Tear trough hostile skies (not to forget space stations and planets) and do your best as the team leader to complete objective-based tasks. Unlocking Survival mode requires you to finish Mission first. The name says it all: survive all of the stages in mission mode without saving your game, a real challenge cut out for those who like a tough ride and are capable of staying in the zone until the rewarding end. [br][br]At the start of each stage, you will see which vehicles will be available to you. If you begin on foot, the Landmaster and Arwing will sometimes be near you, allowing you to use them at will and change between them as needed. Fox's Arwing maneuvers still perfectly and barrel rolls are easily performed using the L button. Need to speed up? Hit the Y button and engage the turbo, while pressing X will cause you to slow down.[br][br]When pounding the pavement, controls are pretty straightforward as well, with the A button firing your gun and the B button responsible for jumping. Holding down the R button lets you aim in any direction, handy for shooting down any flying enemies. Certain foes which you defeat will drop their weapons along the way. Pick these up to use them yourself and switch from one to another with the C stick.[br][br]In the upper right corner of the screen sits a special gauge which tells you the strength of airborne enemy forces. It's time to focus on helping out your fellow pilots whenever this meter fills up. In addition, you'll be kept up-to-date via audible clues on the level of danger present skywise and on ground.[br][br]Assisting your comrades when flying follows a more obvious structure compared to times when you're out of your beloved Arwing fighter. Bad guys use the surroundings for cover, thus getting a clear shot in needs quite some skill. If you actually fail and loose one of your teammates, you won't be awarded a special "Ally Medal" at the end of that particular stage, but this won't affect the mission or make level progression any harder.[br][br]Dodging asteroids and annihilating swarms of enemy fighters feels satisfying as ever, which has become a trademark for the Star Fox line of games. It's brilliantly executed in a true NextGen format now. Boss encounters mean old school favorites and new additions, most of the times calling on you to target specific spots on the opponent's body. All bosses go through several forms, each phase harder than the one before it, but thankfully delivering something original and different regarding gameplay every time.[br][br]If your friends want to join the action, they certainly can: Namco has included two multiplayer modes, versus deathmatch and team deathmatch. You are free to allow only certain weapons and customize which vehicles will be available for a given match. Up to four players choose between several arenas and stages unlocked from the main story mode. Run around on foot or use the Arwing and Landmaster, at your disposal depending on the battleground you're in. [br][br]Lik Sang

The emulator for the GBA and Nintendo DS has been updated to a new release (and clean too, if you downloaded a previous version, you will have to do a virus check as the author got infected), heres whats in this new release:[br][br] If I'm ever going to take advantage of the 3D hardware present in most computers that'll be running DSemu, it's probably wise to use some 3D-accelerated driver like DirectX or OpenGL to harness the hardware. Hence, as of today, both the GBA and DS cores draw onto a textured quad that is rendered by OpenGL. In the far future, the DS core will probably be drawing objects over the top of this '2D display' quad.[br][br]There are two nice side benefits to the OpenGL switch. Firstly, since the hardware is handling the scaling of the quad, you can now resize the DSemu window at will, and the display will stretch to match. Second, I actually got a good 10% speedup in frame rate by moving from GDI to OpenGL. See how it goes for you.[br][br]In other news, yet more core bugs that mic's ARMwrestler has been able to track down. Today, there was a nice little one in LDR-asr-by-32, where the wrong address would end up being read from. All patched up now, which means a clean sweep for the ARM core. (Thumb is still a different matter.)[br][br]Lots of news today. [br][br]Download the new clean version Here.[br][br]Download some Nintendo DS Roms (Freeware game and 4 Demos) Here

Nintendo has let a few slip new details on its jaw-dropping new Zelda title for GameCube, as well as speaking about the importance of the massive series in the design and development of Nintendo DS.[br]Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma, who says he's "two-hundred percent involved" in the development of the new Legend of Zelda on GameCube, has reportedly recently been interviewed by French publication Liberation. Although reluctant to talk about the title at any length Aonuma did have a couple of interesting nuggets to divulge.[br][br]"The next episode in the Zelda series for GameCube is already coming, but I can't say absolutely anything about it," Aonuma is said to have explained, before actually going on to reveal that the game "follows chronologically after the Wind Waker" and is currently pencilled in for a 2005-end release in Japan.[br][br]Not earth-shattering info perhaps, but certainly interesting. The new GameCube Zelda game's visual style was also touched on: "I can reveal one lone secret: it'll be very, very beautiful," Aonuma told Liberation. Having been bowled over by the screenshots released so far, we'd have to agree.[br]Aonuma then went on to talk about the influence of the Zelda series on the development of Nintendo DS, possibly dropping hints about what we can expect to see in the inevitable DS Zelda title.[br][br]"In fact, know that our ideas for Four Swords have greatly contributed to the concept behind the DS," he said, adding that: "The gameplay ideas we came up with for Four Swords [on GBA] provided examples on what kind of games would be possible on the Nintendo DS and what kind of advantages the double-screen would enable. [br][br]"It was all theoretical, but today we realize it's a pity - a real shame - that we haven't created a demonstration of a real, great Zelda game for DS." [br][br]Perhaps we'll see that demonstration as this year's E3.

Sad but true. Monk no longer has the means to continue developing this great emulator so the project is over. He did however release the Gcube source with the latest changes that were made for anyone that can find it usefull or for even those that wish to continue Gcube, but in either case please give Monk the credit he deservs.

We could easily pick up on some of the lesser publicised titles. Like Care Bears casting their pixellated magic on GBA SP. Or Ultimate Card Games being dealt out on the sparkling new DS.[br]But wouldn't that be a bit naïve, especially with all you ardent Nintendo-philes keen to get your fetid hands on the likes of Star Fox Assault, Killer 7 and WarioWare Twisted! as though they were a big, scaled-up pair of Jordan's knockers? Our point exactly.[br][br]The good news is that there appears to be a definite smidgen of happening across all the Nintendo formats in the months leading into Summer. The aforementioned and sweet-looking StarFox Assault finally crashlands onto GameCube on April 29, the sequel to super-addictive tub-thumper Donkey Konga arrives on June 3, and the stylus-enabled Yoshi Touch & Go is set to inject further quirkiness into the DS on May 6.[br][br]Other dates of note include Namco's Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean (GameCube) on April 1, Viewtiful Joe 2 (GameCube) on April 1, Need for Speed Underground 2 (DS) on April 29, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories (GBA SP) on May 6 and WarioWare Twisted! (GBA SP) on June 3.[br]However, also glowing out from the release schedule like a 3,000 Volt lightbulb set against a bottle of King Kong's zit concealer is the mooted June 27 date of Capcom's blood-tinged, cel-shader Killer 7. Only recently it was suggested the game had slipped all the way back to September, caused by a knock-on effect from delays in Japan. [br][br]Yet despite the rumours, Nintendo still has the game pencilled in for end-June. So just what is the truth? "To be honest, we couldn't say whether Killer 7 will release in June, July, August or September," a Capcom spokesman told us today. "There was talk of it releasing in September, but it's possible it may be knocked down. It should definitely release in the Summer though."[br][br]Hopefully, we will have some more official confirmation on this in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out the full Nintendo Q2 release schedule below:[br][br]GameCube:[br][br]Baten Kaitos - 1 April 2005 [br]Viewtiful Joe 2 (Capcom) - 1 April 2005[br]Star Fox Assault - 29 April 2005[br]Donkey Konga 2: Hit Song Parade (temporary title) - 3 June 2005[br]Batman Begins (EA) - June 2005[br]Madagascar (Activision) - June 2005[br]Killer 7 (Capcom) - 27 June 2005[br]Medal of Honor 4 (EA) - Q2 2005[br][br]GBA SP: [br][br]Yoshi's Universal Gravitation (Nintendo) - 22 April 2005[br]KINGDOM OF HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES (Square/Enix) - 6 May 2005[br]Herby Fully Loaded (Disney / Buena Vista Games) - May 2005 [br]Care Bears (Game Factory/K.E. News From Lik Sang [br][br]While Nintendo say "Touching is Good", MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" would be a better phrase for this NDS. Suntory Limited announced they will team up with Nintendo for a campaign promoting the new Pepsi Twist this March, but just for Japan. Those who purchase the drink can send in the sticker for a lucky draw, and the first 1000 winners will receive a limited Pepsi Blue edition of Nintendo DS, complete with matching carry case, and a Pepsi styled version of the popular Hori headphones we sell here. Along with those, there's other prizes up for grabs such as Super Mario Stage figures.[br][br]Here in Hong Kong we're under a heavy David Beckham campaign from the same cola distributor (the soccer player's face is on every can you see), and Lik Sang does not expect to have this baby blue system on-sale anytime. With just 1000 units for all of Japan, supply is extremely limited. Should we ever get our hands on one or a few of them however, we'll make sure to add them to one of the next updates on our Payback Points Prizes Selection. On a final note, this is the first non-platinum colored NDS to see the light of the day, which gives us hope more choices will appear down the line also...

News From Lik Sang [br][br]Able/Milestone join the honourable ranks of vertical shooter developers like Psikyo, Alfa, Success and Treasure, proving dodging bullets is still the rage. Chaos Field, originally a Naomi arcade title, was released for the Sega Dreamcast last year, and has now made it's way to the GameCube, picking up a few bonuses along the way. This includes a new boss attack mode, plus new enemies.[br][br]Trailer (8.4mb - mpeg)The overall flow of Chaos Field was beautifully designed by its creators, it plays very smoothly with the various weapons available. Gameplay-wise, as smooth as it is, you are definitely in for an experience that will demand lightning-fast reflexes. Players are also rewarded when they take their fingers off the trigger for a second, letting you collect items leading up to special attacks. Other features include the ability to switch between two different modes, "Order" and "Chaos". The later makes your weapons more awe-demanding, but it's no easy life there, since this will also increase the power of enemy attacks significantly. Being invincible for an instant while going from one state to the other helps, but hey, we warned you - you're certainly in for a hardcore shooter ride!

Crikey, we are up to our necks in rumour this week. The next stragglers to drag itself ashore from the sea of speculation are reports that Nintendo is planning to stuff feature films onto DS game cards and roll out the much-anticipated DS online service in the near future.[br]According to reports on gaming blog Kotaku, Nintendo is working on compressing video files using Divx so that they can fit onto tiny DS game cards. This way you wouldn't need any additional add-on - like Nintendo's own Play-Yan device - to watch flicks on the dual-screened handheld. This would bring DS into line with the growing list of UMD movies soon to be available for Sony's PSP.[br][br][br][br]It's estimated that around two hours of video could be compressed onto the little cards, and Kotaku speculates that an animated feature will be the first title to get a DS movie release. [br]It's not unbelievable - Nintendo has been selling Pokemon episodes on GBA carts for a long while now (although not in Europe), and the Play-Yan clearly shows the company wants to compete with Sony's multimedia PSP.[br][br]Next up is more speculation about the DS's forthcoming online service, which should allow DS owners around the world to compete and chat with each other via wi-fi hotspots. We brought you the exclusive confirmation from Nintendo that such a service was in the pipelines last month, but Kotaku's addition to the rumour pit is that the service will allow users to download games wirelessly.[br][br]In fact, this is fairly old news. Way back in October when Nintendo was revealing the full potential of the DS downloadable games and game demos were discussed. That's not to mention the handheld's nifty Game Sharing feature, which lets multiple gamers play against each other from one copy of a game thanks to wireless downloading.[br][br]Our sources have told us that the DS online service is imminent, and that announcements could coincide with the European launch of the handheld on March 11. From what we've heard we fully expect it to match PSP's online gaming functionality - read about it here.[br][br]So what's the official word from Nintendo on these rumours? We bet you can guess... "Nintendo does not comment on interent rumour and speculation."[br][br]More DS news - and the rumours that buzz around it like moths to a lightbulb - very soon.

When the DS was first unveiled, much was made of how its wireless networking capabilities would allow for the downloading of games. However, Nintendo hasn't made much of it since, offering no sort of service for downloading of content of any kind. [br][br][br]That is, until now. According to a page on its official Japanese-language Web site, Nintendo today began a nation-wide test of its forthcoming game service. A rough translation of the site says DS owners will be able to wirelessly download demos and bonus content from special kiosks at selected stores across the island nation. While the site has basic information about how the system works, including helpful pictograms (pictured), the [br][br]According to the site, demos will remain on DS units "until power is turned off." The one exception is some additional music for Jam with the Band (called "Daigasso! Band Brothers" in Japan). "After turning off power, the [Jam with the Band] data remains," read the instructions on the site. [br][br]Nintendo will continue the DS download test until March 21. No date for the final launch of the download service was posted for the Web site.

The new Nintendo DS handheld has had the most successful hardware launch ever in the Australian market, where it launched last Thursday ahead of its planned European roll-out on Friday, March 11th.[br][br]"The retail and consumer feedback from Thursday's Nintendo DS launch has been astounding," according to Nintendo Australia's sales and marketing director Rose Lappin. "We are eagerly awaiting the official market sales figures this week to fully solidify our place in the Australian marketplace as the most successful current hardware launch ever."[br][br]Official figures for the launch are expected to be revealed on Wednesday by market research firm GfK, with Nintendo's current claim - that sales in the first 12 hours have been the highest ever for a new hardware platform in the region - based entirely on retailer feedback.[br][br]The DS launches in Europe on March 11th, priced at UKP 99 / 149 Euro, the last major territory to receive the hardware after hugely successful launches in Japan and North America before Christmas.[br][br]The platform is already a huge success despite strong market anticipation for Sony's PlayStation Portable - whose European launch was recently pushed back indefinitely due to stock shortages.[br][br]Over 2.8 million units of the DS were sold through in North America and Japan by mid-January, and the company is believed to be on track to meet its aggressive target of selling five million units worldwide by the end of its financial year on March 31st.
